Advertising Lessons

What would you say sells? A particular product or a website as a whole?

In the short time I have been on the web most of what I have learned is you have to sell the entire package.
Have you ever wondered why people use a full page ad to try and sell you something?

Think about it for a minute. How many pages have you went to where the entire page was a listing for one single product? Hundreds maybe even thousands, and that is only a small fraction of the amount on the World Wide Web today.

Every day there are more and more people listing new full page ads to sell you one particular product or another. You can go to any particular website to browse for products but the majority will have links that lead you to one page advertisements. Now you may be asking yourself about this now right?

Well it is true for most people in the marketing business today one page ads sell and they sell big time. You can do a search online with almost every search engine and you will find listings for various advertisements. Somewhere on the page you will see a group of small advertising posts. Now if one catches your eye and you click the little three line link it takes you to a full page listing selling one item.

The good thing is that the product is something you were already looking for.

The marketers have to do this for the consumer namely you to know a little more about a product. You wouldn't buy a product without knowing a thing about it now would you? If you see a book on a shelf that catches your eye you will no doubt turn it over and read something before you buy it right?

Well now this all makes me wonder why do we go to so much trouble listing a home page on our own websites? I say this because I recently decided to join the online marketing field and had to create my own website. I worked really hard learning in the process what it takes to build a user friendly site. I didn't have a lot of money to invest so yes a went with a cheaper hosting company and built my website totally on my own.

After a few weeks I began searching other similar sites as mine and discovered that one look at mine and you could tell I was a newbie. A fish fresh out of the water so to speak. So I went back to my site and tried to freshen it up a bit make it more appealing.

I can still tell you it looks like a newbie site but then I am new here.

However on my home page I have listings for those particular products, as well as links which will take you to full page advertisements.

Again it's the full page advertisements that sell in the end.

My home page is the prettiest page on my site but I am not selling my homepage. I want to sell the products I have listed. So I have made a user friendly home page with pictures and links to present to the online web users.

In the end I still don't have people looking up my home page to look for products to purchase, why would they? I am new here I am certainly not listed high in the rankings to get people to find my site. I have to use various means of advertisements to promote my products. I have to build those little three line links to take the consumer to a particular page where they can read all about one item. I have to promote individual full page advertisements one at a time. The cost can go through the roof if that one item is not the right one for the consumer. And whats funny in the end all the little advertisements I have made still my home page rarely gets a visitor.

So I ask myself what should I really be promoting here? My individual page advertisements or my website home page? Come on over check it out tell me what you think browse my products pages or my affiliate page, or just leave a comment with your suggestions for a better solution to the advertisement newbie here. At least I have you curious enough to read to the end so check out my homepage.
